Trying Times

Arlen Specter is getting feisty in his forced retirement, or at least he seemed fired up in his questioning of would-be Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan today.  Lindsey Graham had an interesting line of questioning for Kagan as well.  We’ll talk about today’s hearings on the program tonight.

Shortly after Obama shared a burger with Medvedev, we learn Russian spies have infiltrated US security.  Was Medvedev involved in the plot –  behind the veil of mayo and pickle chips?

Sounds like a James Bond thriller.  We’ll also continue discussion on the greatest oil catastrophe in US history.

Eleven workers died engulfed in flames and now the man-made disaster has reached sixty days.
Top kill was top worst and the leak continues to burst.
The gulf used to be Heaven and now is Hell.
Hey BP, ring a bell?
Mere innocent creatures are being killed and we’re debating to keep them alive.  Let them thrive.
Step in their shoes.  Don’t let them perish.
Does all this pollution have a solution?
Do all these questions have an answer?
Will I have an ocean when I grow up?
Jake – age 10

The Russian “spy” story is just another step toward clearing deck in preparation for our war against Iran. The “spies” are hostages to guarantee no interference from the Ruskies.

    Matt,

Wow. There sure is a lot of doom and gloom going around these days.

    Beware of Self-Fulfilling Prophecies!

Oil clean-up activities like skimming are being delayed by Tropical Storm Alex in the Gulf of Mexico.

Skimming ships have returned to shore in Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida and Alabama, as gusts and high waves make the procedure unsafe.

“They are still doing dispersant flights, but no skimming and no burning,” a Coast Guard official told the AFP news agency.

The oil capture at the spill site is continuing despite the weather.

Tens of thousands of barrels of oil have leaked every day since the Deepwater Horizon rig sank in April.

Dude. I’m just the messenger. You have the clown Grassley- clown, but still a senator- asking our next SCJ if God sanctions gun ownership. And you don’t believe we’re on the eve of destruction?

Oh, about those “spies,” one of them just happens to be a US journalist critical of our foreign policy in Latin America: “Vicky Peláez wrote for El Diario/La Prensa, the most widely read Spanish language newspaper in the Big Apple.

She was one of the few Hispanic journalists to criticize Washington’s policies toward Latin America, and who sought balance in her reports on Venezuela and other countries of the region that are normally extremely criticized in the U.S. press.

Until today, no international organization that defends journalists and freedom of expression, such as the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA – English/SIP – Spanish), or Reporters Without Borders (RSF – French/Spanish) has made a statement about her arrest.

Peláez was arrested along with her husband, Juan Lázaro, a Uruguayan native, on Sunday in their house in Yonkers, on the outskirts of New York City……..”

    Matt,

Ok, fine. Have it your way.

We’re on the eve of destruction!

    Feel better?

Thom thinks it ‘s so important that Barack name more judges– Good news, Dude, our SCOTUS isn’t run by Nazi wannabees: Elena Kagan declined several opportunities to criticize the current Supreme Court on Wednesday, testifying at the third day of confirmation hearings, “I’m sure everyone up there is acting in good faith.”

In a lengthy exchange with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, Kagan said pointedly she didn’t agree with the Rhode Island Democrat’s analysis that conservative justices appointed by Republican presidents were “driving the law in a new direction by the narrowest possible margins” in a series of 5-4 rulings.

Later, she sat quietly as Democratic Sens. Ted Kaufman of Delaware and Al Franken of Minnesota vigorously criticized recent court rulings. Both men said they would not ask her to agree with them, and she did not volunteer to do so.

(MarketWatch) — Hurricane Alex, which strengthened overnight from a tropical storm, is heading for the coastline near the Texas-Mexico border and is starting to churn oil from the massive BP spill on to beaches along the Gulf of Mexico, reports said Wednesday.

The Associated Press reported that six-foot waves and winds reaching 25 mph were forecast for the Gulf region. The news agency also said that the storm pushed a patch of oil toward Grand Isle and uninhabited Elmer’s Island on the Louisiana coast and dumped tar balls the size of apples on beaches there.

Further east, white sand on Alabama beaches was streaked with long lines of oil, the AP reported.
