The news can’t get much worse, can it? The hurricane headed toward Texas, the crisis in the Gulf, suicides, the worsening economy, the potential war in Iran . . . it almost makes you afraid to turn on the TV.
We’ll discuss the ongoing horror show on the program tonight! Call 877-996-2556!

Are you following the Cop Trial in the Oakland Bart shooting? Oakland is about to have a riot like the Rodney King Trial riots.
Things just GOT worse for me! I paid my bills this morning and I’ve got a whopping fifty bucks to live off of. Not just for the rest of the month, but from now on. I’ve been out of work for three YEARS and never received unemployment or any other public assistance. I’ve cashed out my retirement and have no investments to fall back on. For three YEARS I’ve lived on the cheap and have done the best I could. I just can NOT get a job, and I don’t know what to do anymore. If I wasn’t such a coward and have a little girl to take care of, I’d just off myself and be done with this shite existence. Eff it all!
(MarketWatch) — Hurricane Alex, which strengthened overnight from a tropical storm, is heading for the coastline near the Texas-Mexico border and is starting to churn oil from the massive BP spill on to beaches along the Gulf of Mexico, reports said Wednesday.
The Associated Press reported that six-foot waves and winds reaching 25 mph were forecast for the Gulf region. The news agency also said that the storm pushed a patch of oil toward Grand Isle and uninhabited Elmer’s Island on the Louisiana coast and dumped tar balls the size of apples on beaches there.
Further east, white sand on Alabama beaches was streaked with long lines of oil, the AP reported.
Oh it gets worse. There is a report out today that says drivers in the northwest (Idaho, Washington and Oregon) are driving MORE than they have in nearly 10 years. That’s right MORE driving even with the disaster in the gulf.
I’ve said it before but humans are just too stupid to live.
Andy,
Are you driving more or less these days?
Personally, I’m driving a bit less, considering I consolidate my local chores now when I need to go out…I do them all in one trip, rather than several trips.
BREAKING NEWS:
The House voted 237-192 to pass a sweeping package of reforms to the financial regulatory system.
Afraid to turn on the news? Huh? TV News?
That’s what I turn to when I want to hide from reality!
US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has said he will issue an order for a new moratorium on deep water oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico after a court blocked an earlier ban.
A federal judge ruled on Tuesday that the six-month moratorium put in place in the wake of April’s massive oil spill was too broad.
But suspending drilling “was and is the right decision”, Mr Salazar said.
The White House had already said it would challenge the judge’s ruling.
The judge said the lengthy ban was “invalid” and could not be justified, as the negative impact on local businesses was simply too great.
“I will issue a new order in the coming days that eliminates any doubt that a moratorium is needed, appropriate, and within our authorities,” Mr Salazar said in a statement.
(MarketWatch) — After making changes to appease moderate Republicans in the Senate, the House of Representatives on Wednesday approved the most significant shake-up of the regulation of U.S. banks since the Great Depression, placing new restrictions on the nation’s biggest banks, reining in the Federal Reserve and crafting a major new consumer-protection division for mortgage and credit-card products.
Otto: You don’t even know how to drive.
Miller: I don’t want to know how. I don’t want to learn. See? The more you drive, the less intelligent you are.
When it comes to driving, I’ a CONSULTANT. That is, I know how to do it, I just can’t…kinda of like a neutered dog. LOL
Those letters earlier sound like something that could’ve been straight out of the Great Depression except for the skills involved. The only reason we’re not yet seeing images like those out the Great Depression is because of the last shreds of what remains of the FDR safety net enacted after the last Great Depression. But with know-nothing Republicans blocking extension of long-term unemployment, assisted by know almost as little corporate Dems, those types of images can’t be far away, not that we’ll see much through the corporate media though the images will be there to see for those that search for them or merely open their own eyes to see it happen right in front of them. Instead of a migration from Oklahoma to California, it might be from the Gulf states this time, but to where? There are no jobs in California, no jobs anywhere. China maybe? That’s not happening. Or are we just supposed to just stay where we are and die?
There is a phrase missing in this statement: “watered down”.
