Dirty Laundry

Did you enjoy the Sunday talk shows, Truthseekers?  The constant bickering about the “Obamacare” roll-out?  The reported millions of people who will have their plans cancelled due to the fact that their policies don’t meet the minimum requirements mandated by the new law?

Why any American would prefer crappy health care coverage is a mystery.  Well, maybe not if your a Fox “news” viewer.  They’re used to being spoon-fed BS that rational, thinking adults wouldn’t accept.  Like the need to invade Iraq following an attack on America by 19 Saudi hijackers.  Or the need to create a MASSIVE Department of Homeland Security because Dim Son failed to heed the warnings of a PDB entitled “Osama bin Laden Determined to Strike Within the US.”

But I digress.

A more interesting story that is being under-reported in the news today is that SAC Capital investments just received the largest fine in history for insider trading – $1.8 Billion.  Lunch money for the Koch Brother’s sect.

As Al Jazeera reports:

SAC Capital Advisors will plead guilty to criminal fraud charges, stop investing money for others and pay $1.8 billion — the largest financial penalty in history for insider trading — to resolve criminal and civil claims against the hedge fund giant, the government announced Monday.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara told a news conference the settlement should send the message that “no institution should rest easy in the belief that it is too big to jail.” He said it was up to the courts to decide whether to accept the plea deal. No date for a plea was immediately set. SAC Capital said in a statement: “We take responsibility for the handful of men who pleaded guilty and whose conduct gave rise to SAC’s liability. The tiny fraction of wrongdoers does not represent the 3,000 honest men and women who have worked at the firm during the past 21 years. SAC has never encouraged, promoted or tolerated insider trading.”

It’s it amazing how it’s always a minute fraction, a “handful” of bad actors who always spoil it for the otherwise upstanding Big Corporations or Banksters?  Be it Enron or Harkin?  Remember Harkin?

Also on the table for discussion tonight, the ludicrous claim by the gun nuts in the wake of the latest shooting at the Los Angeles  airport that the victims might still be alive were guns allowed in airports.  Yup – only guns can prevent gun deaths.  Makes perfect sense!

There’s a loophole that lets corporate criminals take a tax deduction for the cost of the legal settlements they negotiate with the government. Every year, billions of our tax dollars pay for subsidizing oil spills, mortgage lending abuses, etc. JPMorgan may be allowed to deduct some of the $13 billion it faces in settlements. Three years ago, was BP bragged about the billions of dollars it had set aside for damage claims and oil cleanup – but in the end BP wrote off the cost of its $32 billion So-Called cleanup and collected a $10 billion tax windfall for its Gulf ecocide. (Don’t get me started on eyeless shrimp with tumors, fish with bleeding lesions, etc.) – So SAC Capital Investments may get off as well and stick us with its bill.

    So sickening, Capt.Mary.

The reason some Americans are whining about their shitty healthcare plans being canceled is the plain and simple fact is that they’re fucking STUPID! They read the first line of the letter they get from the insurance company “This is to inform you that your healthcare plan is being canceled…….” and they don’t bother reading the rest of the letter. They start freaking out, running around the house screaming about the Marxist, Socialist, anti-American, Muslim, queer in the the White House. The morons don’t stop to think (they don’t know how) “Hey, maybe I should check out the exchange. Maybe I can get a better plan for less money!” I got one of those letters and I thought “Woo Hoo! Now I can get a cheaper plan!” And I did!!!! Thanks Obama!
