Bushmovement2k,

Do you honestly want to get into a discussion of Roman Catholic, OFFICIAL Catholic teaching and politics? i would be glad to do so. As a Catholic and a theologian i have a bit of expertise in this area. What i find unfortunate is that you wouldn't respond to the facts at hand; rather, you would simply spew your moronic crap. For instance, you have said time and again how you support the death penalty even though Catholic teaching opposes the death penalty, you support a union busting political party even though the Catholic church is pro-union, you support policies specifically designed to concentrate wealth and political power in fewer and fewer hands even though the Catholic Church does not. So, you have ONE position, antiabortion and one hugely poor way of going about accomplishing that task, overturning Roe v. Wade. Were someone stupid enough to pack the supreme court with enough republican yahoos to accomplish this task, every aspect of Catholic Social teaching, which as a Catholic you are supposed to uphold, would be at risk. Are you just that blind?

"Bush said that the kept the story secret because it did not set a good example for his daughters preferring instead that they see him as a failed business man that executes people. Bush also reminded reporters that the arrest happened 24 years ago and that he hasn't had a drink in 14 years. "That was a turning point in my life," said Bush, "I went home, took a long hard look at myself in the mirror, and decided then and there to quit drinking in 10 years."" SNL

DEMOCRATS GET THEIR TURN WITH LIEBERMAN'S VISIT

By Bob Linneman | Duluth News Tribune staff writer | November 3, 2000

The difference between presidential candidates George W. Bush and Al Gore was made crystal clear Thursday for a group of Minnesota Head Start teachers who are in Duluth this week for a state convention.

Turned away by the Bush campaign Wednesday night at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, the teachers were welcomed to the Joe Lieberman rally at the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Thursday.

``Our group asked for Bush tickets, and we were denied,'' said teacher Michelle Holden of Backus, who added that the Head Start convention was even at the DECC, where Bush appeared. ``The Gore/Lieberman people not only gave us tickets, but brought us over here in buses.''

ROSIE O'DONNELL TO AIR STREISAND SPEECH | By Timna Tanners

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Talk show host Rosie O'Donnell will air a political speech by her friend Barbra Streisand supporting Democratic candidate Al Gore after her show's syndicator backed down from objections, sources said Sunday.

The syndicator, Warner Brothers, dropped objections after O'Donnell put her job on the line..........

-- more --

Streisand lauded O'Donnell's decision to run her comments in a phone interview with CSPAN. ``Rosie's a very brave girl, because she's bucking Warner Brothers to do that,'' she said.

-- more --

ABC, which produces Walters' ``20/20'' interview show, decided to use only 44 words of her speech............

A longtime Democratic Party supporter, Streisand said she backed the vice president because of his pro-choice position and environmental stand, among other reasons.

Top losers this election year:

*Mainstream media--This terrible year distorting Gores character and covering the Bushboys ass, follows their ugly year of chasing President Clintons Genitalia.

*Ralph Nader--Will not get his coveted 5% and will go down as the republican patsy of all time.

*John Macain--Kisses baby Bush ass even though Smirk dishonored his service to the country, lied about his family and questioned his integrity.

* The christian right--Should spend eternity in hell for supporting a draft dodging drunken coke snorting dumbasss, who spends his spare time discussing pussy with his father. The phony pharisees then lie about Al Gores integrity and honesty even though Gore was a practicing Chrisian, serving his country in Nam while Smirkie was laying with Whores in Mexico.

What can you expect--This is America--

The republicans show how little they think of our country by offering a candidate as unqualified as George W. Busch and of course that is nothing new to all of us BUT to know they could have offered a MUCH better candidate to the undecided voter such as John McCain (not that I would have voted for him but he is for more intelligent than Busch) is really very sad.

Deep in their hearts, it must be embarrassing for many of the republicans to have to hold their noses as they vote for a candidate as lousy as Busch ONLY because they hate Clinton so much and feel as though they have to vote against a far more qualified candidate as Gore because they have been brainwashed into thinking a vote for Gore is a vote for "the evil" Clinton. No logic there but then again there is no logic in voting for Busch, the worst candidate (republican or Democrat) to run for president in many, many years.

BUSH'S HOUSE TURNS OUT TO BE RATHER GLASSY

Fort Worth Star-Telegram | Bob Ray Sanders

From the time he first ran for governor of Texas, there have been three obvious characteristics of a George W. Bush campaign. Each has been carefully controlled, extremely calculated and keenly evasive of personal issues that would be harmful to a candidate who had only admitted making "mistakes" in his youth and having a "drinking problem" when he was young.

The revelation this past week that Bush was arrested for DUI (driving under the influence) 24 years ago in Maine will be blamed on many people except the one who is truly responsible: Bush himself.

The timing of this embarrassing and perhaps vote-costing negative news must be laid squarely at Bush's feet.

He could have avoided it by telling Texans in 1994 and the American people in 1998 or 1999 the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Instead, he lied. Yes, that's the word I intended to use.

-- more --

The record of Bush's DUI arrest was expunged in 1993. Ironically, that was the year that Bush decided to run against Gov. Ann Richards.

-- more --

Bush became a master of evasion, skating most of the those questions about "youthful indiscretions." For the most part, the media allowed him to get away with it.

On the Trail, Bush Moves to Put Out Fire From His Past

Bush alluded to the arrest while stumping in Michigan. "I've made mistakes in my life," he said. "But I'm proud to tell you, I've learned from those mistakes." But for the most part, Bush continued to portray himself as a potential healer of Washington divisiveness. "This country needs somebody to unite this nation, somebody to bring us together, somebody to clean house there in the nation's capital, and that's what this whole campaign's about," Bush told thousands of supporters at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan.

Yet, in an indication of how the controversy may have narrowed Bush's options, at least Friday, he omitted his standard criticisms about Gore's past exaggerations. His running mate, Dick Cheney, twice Friday omitted his standard line about Bush returning "honor and integrity" to the White House.

Cheney did use the phrase in a third speech, after reporters asked campaign officials about the omission.

Message from Al Gore:

///////////////////////

Only two days until Election Day! Help us spread Al Gore's and Joe Lieberman's message by sending an e-mail to as many people as you can. Tell them this election is about big choices and real differences. Al Gore has an agenda that benefits all Americans, not just the few:

Gore's middle-class tax cuts would fit within a balanced budget to ensure that all Americans benefit from the nation's current prosperity. George W. Bush's massive tax cut would put prosperity in peril, returning the nation to deficits and making it "impossible" to eliminate the debt. Almost half of Bush's tax cuts are targeted toward the few who make more than $300,000 a year.

Gore would take steps to protect Social Security for seniors and provide a new choice to encourage younger workers to save for retirement. George W. Bush has made a promise he cannot keep. He has admitted that he would drain $1 trillion of the Social Security Trust Fund into private accounts for younger workers, but he has also promised the same money to seniors for their Social Security checks. What choice will he make?

Gore will pursue proven strategies for improving public education - reducing class sizes, improving standards and accountability, and bringing technology into classrooms. He has worked to increase access to higher education and lifetime learning opportunities, and he has advocated for get-tough proposals to make schools safer and drug-free.

"Nothing is more important to us than our families," write Al Gore and Joe Lieberman in the introduction of their book Bringing Prosperity Home: Choices for America's Families. "We need policies that value families -- that let parents balance work and family and make our schools, hospitals, and communities more friendly to families' needs."

I would guess that with all the Bush surplus winning votes in Texas and much of the south that he could have an extra 3 million votes and still lose the electoral college. Obviously, a Gore win in Florida, Penns, and Michigan would really challenge Bush final electoral totals. With this thought in mind Bush could win the popular vote by as much as 3% and still lose.

I like that thought of Bush losing because of a consitutional clause.

Homeless Voters Given Ride, Cigarettes

MILWAUKEE, Updated 11:00 p.m. CST November 5, 2000-- Campaign volunteers for the Democratic Presidential campaign were discovered distributing cigarettes to homeless voters after the volunteers had recruited the homeless specifically for their vote Saturday.

To the Guinness Book of Records: reserve a whole page under hypocrisy. It's for George W Bush and the managers of his bid for the White House.

The basic misperception here is to confuse amiability with integrity, marketable charm with ability. The truth, bluntly, is that Bush is an irresponsible know-nothing. His instincts are those of the 1930s isolationist, little America, rather than the America that led the world in the creation of a new liberal world order. If he is president, say goodbye to the nuclear test ban, to action on global warming, to peacemaking interventions.

Those of you in sodden Britain who might conclude that global warming, for instance, is a matter of concern should know that Bush, like the Wall Street Journal, regards it as a leftist scare. Asked what he would do, he responds that we need more study before ratifying the Kyoto agreement, putting me in mind of a fire chief who arrives at the blaze to say he will have to study the origins of the fire before trying to put it out.

By Richard C. Harwood SPECIAL TO MSNBC.COM

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 — Conventional wisdom has it that in just a handful of days Ralph Nader may help to snatch victory from the hands of Al Gore. There’s lots of urgent talk about how Gore should handle Nader. But there’s a missing piece of the discussion: just what is at the heart of the Nader support.

To get Nader supporters into the Gore column, Democrats are now pulling out all stops. Their thrust is to make Nader supporters feel guilty.

SURPRISINGLY, Ralph Nader’s support hasn’t waned over the course of campaign 2000. As Election Day approaches, and the stakes become clearer, people still have not bailed out on his candidacy. Instead, Nader’s strength only seems to have grown in numbers and intensity.

ROSS PEROT REDUX? In 1992, another third-party candidate took off in the polls - the Reform Party’s Ross Perot. With the demise of the Reform Party, and the mocking of Perot in some quarters, we often forget that he attracted the support of millions of Americans by speaking plainly to people. He took on tough issues such as the budget deficit, campaign finance reform and NAFTA. He lavished praise on the town hall meetings, a symbol of America’s enduring commitment to the right of the public to be heard. And he talked in practical terms of needing to “fix” America’s problems.

Is Al Gore correct in claiming a vote for Ralph Nader is a vote for George W. Bush?

Yes. It will split Democratic voters and pave the way for a Bush victory.

No. A vote for Nader demonstrates a legitimate desire among his supporters for a change in American political culture.

Vote to see results

Is Al Gore correct in claiming a vote for Ralph Nader is a vote for George W. Bush?

* 4785 responses Yes. It will split Democratic voters and pave the way for a Bush victory. 35%

No. A vote for Nader demonstrates a legitimate desire among his supporters for a change in American political culture. 65%

Survey results tallied every 60 seconds. Live Votes reflect respondents' views and are not scientifically valid surveys.

The Nader campaign has some similarities to Perot’s, but there’s also a fundamental difference. Perot’s campaign, for all the positive things it triggered in Americans’ imagination, sprung from people’s anger and disgust with the political system. A vote for Perot was a means by which to send the system a message: “We have had enough!” Nader takes that disaffection one step further down the road to political reality. Certainly, some Nader supporters may simply be frustrated with their choices for president this year and may not even know Nader’s full array of political views. But Nader seems to stand for something: for honesty, integrity, a track record of consistency and conviction, a willingness to speak out. It seems that the Nader support is grounded more in people’s hopes for what America can be than in grinding the system to a halt.

WHO’S GUILTY? To get Nader supporters into the Gore column, Democrats are now pulling out all stops. Their thrust is to make Nader supporters feel guilty - arguing that a vote for Nader is a vote for Bush. In the end, Nader just might make the difference in a handful of states, thus swinging the election to Bush. This prospect raises the question of whether Nader will then hold responsibility for a Republican victory and the course then-President Bush takes? A quick, shallow knee-jerk analysis might render an emphatic answer of “yes!”

THINK IT THROUGH

But perhaps it would be wise to think this situation through with greater care and seriousness. One could argue that it is not Nader who must temper his own ambitions, but Gore, who needs to make his own case to American voters. To many people, Gore simply has not delivered. Indeed, Gore’s topsy-turvy campaign has been the antithesis of Nader’s. Where Gore has constantly changed the suits he wears, looking for just the right tones, Nader seemingly has not even bothered change out of - or even clean - his one suit. While Americans have seen three different Al Gores in the three presidential campaigns, Nader seemingly has not even worked on his political delivery. And while Gore tries daily to find just the right issue to pitch, apparently being tone deaf at times, Nader has remained true to his long-standing public views. Perhaps what resonates most deeply among Nader supporters is that he speaks to the kind of politics people seek - one in which the candidate knows himself, bases his views on conviction and stands for something, even in the midst of political crossfire.

A NEW DIRECTION

Get political

Discuss the campaign

• Decision 2000 BBS

John McCain, and Bill Bradley to a lesser degree, tapped into similar desires among Americans disaffected with politics-as-usual. Now Nader continues that charge. Sure, among these candidates the issues and positions they value differ, but the sensibilities embodied within the candidacies themselves hold fast and true. While many people might not yet be ready to embrace this different style of politics, they clearly are moving in that direction. Efforts to “guilt” people into leaving Nader’s side may sway just enough voters for Gore ultimately to win this election. But at the heart of the matter, these efforts miss the point. People hold aspirations for a different kind of politics in America. Winning their votes will demand responding genuinely to those aspirations, not making people feel guilty about them.

Hackers Disable Web Links to Bush Documents

NOVEMBER 5 2000 - On Friday, Nov 3, two hours after an early morning news release distribution to national news editors with links to photocopied Freedom of Information documents about discrepancies in Bush military record, hackers disrupted and shut down Talion.com, the site that provided access to the documents.

The shutdown was traced to Quest, supplier of T-1 lines that supports the host for Talion.com (Bookzone.com). Talion.com and approximately 125 other Internet sites on the Bookzone host were disabled. Immediately after the deadline for TV evening news, access was restored.

Bookzone employees told Talion co-owner Bev Harris that an outage of this duration had never occurred before during four years of operation, and that they had never before been called by their service provider (Quest) to tell them their site would be down. Quest called Bookzone Friday morning to tell them service was interrupted. No explanation was given by Quest as to how the outage occurred. Hit counts provided by two separate programs indicate that the shutdown was not due to a surge in web traffic.

Cigarette 'Bribe' Prompts Criminal Complaint State Election Board Will Also Receive Complaint MILWAUKEE, Updated 8:09 a.m. EST November 6, 2000 -- Wisconsin State Rep. Scott Walker (R - 14th District) plans to file a criminal complaint with the Milwaukee County District Attorney and a formal complaint with the state election board after Milwaukee's WISN 12 News found Gore campaigners giving absentee voters cigarettes outside of City Hall Saturday.

Cigarettes Violate State Election Laws Gore Campaigners Distribute Cigarettes

DISCUSSION

Was The Cigarette Give-Away Unethical?

LINK Wisconsin Election Bribery Laws

PREVIOUS STORY November 6, 2000: Cigarettes Distributed For Gore Vote

WISN 12 News caught volunteers for Vice President Al Gore's campaign giving packs of cigarettes to homeless voters that they had transported to cast absentee ballots.

"Anything that gets something of value, be it a $20 bill on the street out here, or a pack of cigarettes, we think is wrong," Walker said. "The trading off of anything, something of worth, in exchange for someone's vote, not only is it ethically questionable, we believe its a violation of the law."

Volunteers were visiting area shelters Saturday, offering rides to City Hall where homeless citizens could vote by absentee ballot.

"We've been pretty busy, going to the shelters," campaign volunteer Connie Milstein said. Milstein volunteers for the Gore campaign in New York and came to Milwaukee to help get out the vote.

The volunteers then distributed cigarettes to voters outside City Hall.

Voters interviewed by WISN 12, however, said that they did not feel they were being bribed by the volunteers for their votes.

"They just came and asked us to go and vote," Bob Socha said. Socha also said that he enjoys voting and was already planning to vote for Gore.

"They had a couple vans, and said they'd give us a ride. So I took a ride," George Scharf said. Scharf is a homeless voter who said that he had planned to vote for Gore anyway, and that voters weren't told about the free cigarettes until after they were at the polls.

"They didn't mention that until we got down there anyway," he said.

However, a Milwaukee Rescue Mission employee told WISN 12 News that he had to ask democratic campaign volunteers to leave the property after he caught them trying to bribe potential voters with packs of cigarettes.

After viewing WISN 12's video tape Saturday, a local representative of the Gore campaign issued a response to the democratic campaigners who distributed the cigarettes.

"This kind of activity described by Channel 12 is not the kind of help we ask for and it's the kind of help we flat-out reject. These volunteers were from out of state, acting on their own and this was not part of any official democratic 'get out the vote' activity in Wisconsin. They have left the state and we will not invite them to return," wrote Susan Lagana, a spokeswoman for the Democratic Coordinated Campaign.

In a press release, Gov. Tommy Thompson criticized the Gore campaign volunteers for their actions.

"There is no place for this despicable brand of politics in Wisconsin," Thompson said. "It is unconscionable that the Gore campaign would prey on vulnerable people such as the homeless by rewarding them with cigarettes in exchange for their votes."

The Gore campaign did not have any immediate reaction to news of the impending Republican complaint on Sunday.

Well a long time ago. About 1 year. I made a promise to the board. I said if Bush wins, I am here to stay. If gore wins, I will leave. Kind of a bet thing going there. I offered a dinner, but no one would take me up on it.

BIG DONORS OPT TO VOTE WITH WALLETS - MANY STAY HOME ON ELECTION DAY

November 6, 2000

BY AMY KLEIN | DETROIT FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER

Many of metro Detroit's biggest campaign contributors have reached for their checkbooks rather than head to the polls on Election Day.

Two-thirds of the area's 100 top campaign donors did not vote in 1998, the last general election, and at least one heavyweight who pumped more than $100,000 into political coffers this election cycle is not even registered to vote in Michigan.

-- more --

Turnout among big donors in November 1998 was significantly less than the 43 percent reflected statewide. Of 100 donors who routinely wrote checks for $1,000 or more, only 34 voted in the 1998 election, according to state voting records and Federal Election Commission data.

The low turnout reflects a national attitude that money can buy elections, says Larry Makinson, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics.

-- more --

And the money just keeps flowing. So-called soft-money contributions, which are exempt from campaign-finance limits and are supposed to go toward party building rather than the candidates, have reached $255.8 million nationally. Michigan donors have given $6.8 million to soft-money accounts. About 70 percent of donations from Michigan residents go to Republicans.

Bush's D.W. Lie | By Jacob Weisberg | Posted Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at 3:45 p.m. PT

I don't know whether the revelation of a 1976 D.W.I. arrest will hurt G.W.B., but I do think it should. Not because of the incident itself, which is eminently forgivable. And not even because Bush clearly, knowingly, and explicitly lied about it when he told Wayne Slater of the Dallas Morning News that he was never arrested after 1968. I don't condone politicians lying to reporters, but I'm not shocked when they do. What should count against Bush, though, is his off-the-charts hypocrisy. His campaign and the Republican National Committee are running TV ads at this very moment that excoriate Al Gore for fibbing. "Why does Gore say one thing when the truth is another?" one of them asks. As a certain politician once said, you can't take the high horse and then claim the low road.

Hey, Mr. Outraged BETWEEN THE LINES Voter fraud, again! by Joseph Farah Date 11/5/00 Time: 10:49:39 PM

Since when does a card in the mail give you the right to vote? Unless high tech modern California is more backward than Kentucky, a little card is not what allows you to vote. The Voter Registration Books list Registered voters.  The Election poll workers of BOTH Monopoly Dem and Rep parties enforce the election laws. They take a test after hours of training.  An old simpleton question always on the test is "What is a valid ID. for a voter?" , choices include credit card, driver license, other picture ID, voter registration card etc. Guess what is not even a valid ID-- a voter registration card!  In Kentucky, the election officers are to ask for ID and your current address and verify it in the Precinct's Voter Registration Book, unless they can personally ID you (PID is recorded for ID type) as a neighbor living where it says you live in the Registration Book (the Precinct Registration Book is also where the voter signs their name next to their computer printed name from Voter Registration which lists them as a LEGALLY REGISTERED VOTER).  To get Registered into that book is when it is determined by the many laws [enforced by the BOARD of Elections and Judges & Courts and the the State Attorney General] whether the person has a right to vote.  No one is refused the right to vote on Election Day, no ID or even if they are not registered they are advised to first telephone Voter Registration to make sure they are properly registered.  But any voter told they are not legally allowed to vote still can vote, IT'S JUST THEY MUST SIGN AN OATH OF VOTER FORM proclaiming they are LEGALLY registered, due live where they say, and are aware the form is turned over to the Attorney General's office (local Grand Jury) which investigates all such paper work after every election and prosecutes any illegal voting or voter fraud.  ETC.  ETC. ETC.  Many of the laws make even minor infractions a felony along with a big list of misdemeanor offenses. Unless California is more backward than us hillbillies  in Kentucky.  That CARD gives voting privileges to the the daughter of the author's friend's Guatemalan-live-in-slave JUST LIKE the next check you get with YOUR NAME on it saying you just won TEN MILLION DOLLARS you can TAKE down to your bank with your BIG suitcase and fill it up with TEN MILLION DOLLARS cash. Looks like more Republican TEXAS TURD spreading to me.  Drum up that ole racist anti-immigrant support for the WHITE WING of the GOP while over yonder Dubya kisses up to hispanic voters. As the barefoot moonshine drinking Kentucky Ridge Runners probably would say : "You're dumber than a box of Rocks". I'm a City Boy[yea we got cities too], but I bet "a box of rocks" is probably even "dumber than dirt". Now remember, Democrats vote Tuesday and you Republicans vote Wednesday since it is such a big expected turnout.

No more Deja-Reaganoo, send that TEXAS TURD back to where I was born(how ashamed that makes me feel). ------

Hi Mike,

Michael Isacoff was on MSNBC in the past hour discussing his article - out today - in Newsweek. (It's been on the net so I'm sure you're aware of the content - re: Avoiding jury duty.)

Bush will be in Bentonville Arkansas later today. (An area that is conservative-flying monkey right.) Apparently he's avoiding less biased areas.

Incidentally, ARN NEWS (Arkansas Radio Network) just mentioned the latest "unnamed national poll" stating that it was Bush 49 and Gore 41. Whoa there, what poll are they quoting?

Is this what's called brainwashing? TRUST ME, IT WON'T WORK!

Dubya's vibrating lip:

I remember it well. Pointing out before he was ever president that Ronnie Reagan's brain was not functioning to well. Those of us who noticed the the "king was wearing no cloths" usually used the word senility because the "A" word at the time was not well known to many persons.

So remember you heard it here first.

For something to do when Dubya talks to not go nuts that the idiot is getting elected: WATCH HIS BOTTOM LIP WHEN HE SPEAKS, unless he still gets real nervous on the stump, he otherwise has some type of neurological problem. He seems to use his smirk to hide it. He vibrates much much less than Arafat or AG Janet Reno, but sure looks like he may have something wrong with his health. Haven't seen a single story on candidates bill of health this year.

If he doesn't just vibrate cause he is bored (or A.D.D. hyperactive)later when the media says it was un-noticeable when he ran for office. You can say, idiot media, I even read about it when he was still running for president but you morons were too dumb to notice.

DC Super Rally: Green's Nader Stomps in U.S. Capital by Joseph Boris

WASHINGTON -- Nearing the end of his longshot campaign for the U.S. presidency, Ralph Nader on Sunday joined thousands of Green Party supporters for a boisterous rally in ''the last American colony.''

More than 12,000 people gathered in the heart of the nation's capital for four hours of progressive politics, cheering as Nader and his celebrity supporters dismissed arguments that a vote for Nader is a vote for Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush.

``If you don't win on Tuesday, Mr. Gore, it won't be because of Ralph Nader,'' said Michael Moore, the liberal filmmaker. ``It will be because of you, Mr. Gore.''

Moore argued that with 35 years experience as an activist, Nader was inherently more qualified than either Bush or Gore, a theme echoed by former TV host Phil Donahue, actor Danny Glover and rock musician Patti Smith.

They also minimized the differences between the major-party candidates, filling the MCI Center with repeated denunciations of the ``Republicrats.''

``A vote for Nader means the buck stops here ... that we're not willing to play the game of lesser of two evils,'' actor Danny Glover said, quoting extensively from Langston Hughes, the great Harlem Renaissance poet.

With Nader hovering at about 5 percent in most national polls, but drawing significant support in Oregon, Michigan and other toss-up states, his rag-tag campaign has increasingly worried associates of Democrat Al Gore.

In an address that went on for more than an hour, Nader regaled the mostly white, 20-something crowd with some of his favorite themes, arguing for an increase in the minimum wage, stricter consumer and environmental regulations, universal health care and an end to the war on drugs.

But, as he has been prone to do, Nader seized the opportunity to criticize the power and influence of American businesses.

``Corporations were designed to be our servants, not our masters,'' Nader said, surrounded by ads for the giant corporations that bankroll the local Washington Wizards basketball team and Capitals hockey team.

``We can and must stop this corporate welfare that is coming out of Washington, a bustling bazaar of accounts receivable for these corporations,'' Nader said.

The rally also served as a national platform for local activists working to secure statehood for the District of Columbia, a city of more than 500,000 that depends on Congressional largesse for many of its operations, yet lacks a voting representative in either legislative chamber.

Mike, this is really frightening - while watching a Bush rally this morning, an MSNBC reporter wanted viewers to be aware of the dark-suited man standing directly behind her. She said each media/camera crew had been assigned a Bush campaign worker to oversee their coverage! When she was finished, she turned and somewhat sarcastically asked him if she'd done okay!!! He nodded, unsmilingly, in the affirmative.

It looked like the Gestapo had been reincarnated. I had visions of Ollie North back in the basement unshredding his martial law plans.

The European press seems not affected by the am-dubya-nesia of the domestic press... And the thought of The Shrub as Commander In Chief of the largest military in the world does merit some thought:

-------

To the Guinness Book of Records: reserve a whole page under hypocrisy. It's for George W Bush and the managers of his bid for the White House. They have run a campaign of character assassination. Knowing that Al Gore has an intimidating grasp of the issues, they have used every trick, every dollar of special interest money, every toady in the press, to smear the vice-president as a liar. The cleverness of that diversionary tactic was that if it worked it would relieve GW of giving proper answers to the questions of substance he finds so bewildering.

It worked.

Texas Miracle or Myth? Was Bush Telling Us the Truth?

By Steven T. Kirsch

The educational gains in Texas have been George W. Bush's major accomplishment as governor, right? That is why they are the cornerstone of Bush's campaign and why education appears prominently at the top of his Internet home page and campaign literature. On closer examination, however, no credible evidence could be found to support such claims.

"Stay of Inauguration? American Politics Journal EXCLUSIVE by Dave Gonzo with David King Monday, Nov. 6, 2000 -- WASHINGTON (AmpolNS) -- American Politics Journal has learned today that in the event George W. Bush is elected in tomorrow's presidential election, an alliance of top-level Democrats and Texas-based moderates is making preliminary preparations to file a request with the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court to stay the inauguration of George W. Bush until the Texas Attorney General and the state prosecutor who claimed Bush lied on a jury questionnaire decide whether to charge him with a felony.

If Bush were to be convicted, American Politics Journal understands that Bush might not be qualified to sit as President of the United States.

Additionally, American Politics Journal has learned that Democrat lawyers are presently poring over each and every document they can locate in the public record or volunteered by institutions in which Bush swore under oath that he was never charged or convicted of a crime.

This could re-open the investigations regarding the "mystical" change of Governor Bush's driver's license number in Texas -- and all subsequent comments made concerning Bush's arrest record made by both the Governor and his spokesperson Karen Hughes. It could also re-open the investigation of his service record in the Air National Guard, the oath he took as Governor, and the forms he signed thereupon.

This story is developing as we go to press."

To Ms Celia and Mich Bureau Chief regarding projected winners--

The probable adverse effects of projecting a "winner" before the polls close in the Mountain and Pacific time zones really worries me, considering the fabulous spin ability of the TV media [see my earlier statements/concerns].

I heard from the same OK Dem worker source that the networks have said they will give numbers but will not name "projected winners." What a relief! We can all sit back and let these extremely trustworthy people just "do their job." Question: Who is determining what their job is?

And what about cable news--Fox, CNN, MSNBC, and what's the other one? Oh yeah, no problemo here either.

Thank goodness. Our future is in good, unbiased, patriotic hands.

What a relief. Some of us can rest easy.

And the rest of us can check this month's budget once again. Who gets new shoes this time, Johnny or Susie? Do we have some money for Grandma's medicine? And....

To "jim"--

Your 5 comments posted on 11-2 between 10:20pm and 10:31pm are great.

Right on target--the media oligarchy's goal is indeed "disorientation." They have indeed presented us with a "hemetically sealed worldview." Calling their activities "Gaslighting;" terming the view they have been presenting us their own "hologram"--both terms are right on target.

And you sum it up very well--the media's election campaign coverage has truly been a "systematic disinformation campaign."

This message board is great--links, links with comments, excerpts from various material, and personal comments about and reactions to what we've all been subjected to during this campaign.

Gals, I hear fellow Fundamentalist Christians talk ad nauseam about the concepts of being "Christ-Like" and "Traditional Family Values." Without exception, no one bothers to think about how these two topics cross-reference, so to speak. W A S H I N G T O N, Nov. 4 — Though it’s been two years since Newt Gingrich resigned as House speaker, he remains a lightning rod.

Gingrich remains so controversial that even, after all this time, his name is still used by Democrats to attack their Republican opponents. Hillary Rodham Clinton, candidate for Senate in New York, seizes every opportunity to bash her rival, Rep. Rick Lazio, by tying him to Gingrich. It’s a strategy being employed by Democrats challenging congressional Republicans from coast to coast.

BREAKING SPECIAL ELECTION NEWS== DEMOCRATS.COM JUST REPORTED THAT BUSH'S MILITARY SERVICE RECORDS HAVE DISAPPEARED. FULL STORY ON WWW.DEMOCRATS.COM.. "George W. Bush's Military Records Have Vanished!

New York, November 6, 9 p.m. EST: On the eve of the Presidential election, George W. Bush's military records cannot be found.

Bush's records are permanently stored at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) in St. Louis, Missouri. According to Melanie Aitken, an NPRC official, Bush's file was sent in June to the Air Reserve Personnel Center (ARPC) in Denver Colorado, to help officials there answer reporters' questions about Bush's military service.

According to Maj. Tom Deall, Public Affairs Officer of the Air Reserve Personnel Center, ARPC received the file in June and kept it in Denver until August, when it was sent back to NPRC in St. Louis using Federal Express.

According to Aitken, the Federal Express shipment was never received. ...

Democrats.com discovered the files had vanished this afternoon while filing a Freedom of Information Act request seeking information from the Bush file that has not previously been disclosed. In particular, Democrats.com is looking for Bush's retirement and payment records, to determine whether Bush actually reported for duty after April of 1972, when Bush suddenly stopped flying with two full years left on his 6-year obligation..."

1. Ralph Nader is not for sale. Millions of corporate dollars and twenty-two thousand corporate lobbyists are choking American democracy. Nader is the only candidate running a clean money campaign. While Bush and Gore rake in millions of dollars in soft money and obligations to special interests, the Nader campaign refuses soft money, corporate contributions or PAC donations.

2. Ralph Nader is a real reformer. During his 37-year career, he has been the driving force behind landmark pieces of legislation such as the Motor Vehicle Highway Safety Acts, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act and the Freedom of Information Act. He is pushing for real political reform: proportional representation, the instant runoff and same-day voter registration.

3. Ralph Nader is the only candidate fighting for universal health care coverage now. 46 million Americans do not have health insurance –nearly a 30% increase since 1992. A universal health care system of public payment and private delivery would cut the huge administrative costs which burden American wallets.

4. Ralph Nader vigorously fought the confirmation of extremist Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. A Senate controlled by Democrats confirmed Scalia and Thomas. Ralph Nader respects and will protect a woman’s right to choose when to have children. Nader will continue to fight for fair, impartial justices.

5. Ralph Nader strives to abolish child poverty in America. While Western European nations have all but eliminated child poverty, one in five American children lives in poverty.

6. Ralph Nader is the only candidate who supports the repeal of the Taft-Hartley Act, “the chokehold on American labor.” Nader encourages the growth of trade unions—now at a sixty-year low in the private sector—to protect worker’s rights and safety.

7. Ralph Nader is the only candidate who would withdraw the United States from the WTO and NAFTA and renegotiate all trade agreements to include provisions that safeguard workers, consumers, and the environment.

8. Ralph Nader attacks racial discrimination. Nader would protect people of color by enhancing affirmative action, cracking down on racial profiling, implementing widespread community policing, and terminating the illegal lending patterns of redlining and blockbusting.

9. Ralph Nader opposes the failed War on Drugs. Nader believes that this policy has only amplified street crime and transformed the private prison industry into one of the fastest growing industries in America. Nader contends that drug addiction should be treated as a health problem.

10. Ralph Nader is against the death penalty. Bush and Gore are for it.

11. Ralph Nader fights corporate crime and welfare. Corporate crime kills far more people and costs taxpayers far more money than street crime. Corporate welfare siphons hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars away from where they are needed to rebuild America’s bridges, schools, health and recreation centers, drinking water systems, mass transit systems and other public facilities.

12. Ralph Nader calls for an end to the economic sanctions on Iraq, which cause the deaths of 5000 children per month according to the American Physicians Taskforce. Unlike military sanctions, economic sanctions actually strengthen the dictatorship in Iraq.

13. Ralph Nader is the only candidate who supports equal rights for gays and lesbians – in the military, in civil unions, in the workplace, and in the marketplace.

14. Ralph Nader protects family farms, “the cultural backbone of America.” Bush and Gore accept large contributions from giant agribusinesses intent on displacing small farmers. Additionally, along with 90% of Americans, Nader supports labeling genetically-engineered food. Gore and Bush oppose labeling.

15. Ralph Nader would cut the swollen military budget. Although the Cold War ended ten years ago, the Republicans and Democrats continue to fund unnecessary gold-plated weapons systems such as the unworkable anti-ballistic missile defense system and the unsafe Osprey fighter.

16. Ralph Nader supports a significant increase in the federal minimum wage and a living wage nationwide. Although the record-breaking economy has doubled in size over the last thirty years, the inflation-adjusted federal minimum wage is currently approximately $2.15 lower than it was in 1968.

17. Ralph Nader would end all commercial logging in our National Forests. The Federal Government subsidizes logging in the National Forests to the tune of 1.2 billion dollars annually, yielding just 3% of the national timber harvest.Nader would use the 1.2 billion to restore those forests for future generations.

18. Ralph Nader would reshape our energy policy to favor clean energy technologies, such as solar and conservation. His push for efficient and clean mass transit systems would not only greatly reduce our dependence on oil, but would reduce transportation costs, pollution levels and traffic accidents.

19. Ralph Nader will protect your privacy. Never before has the privacy of American citizens been under such an invasion, from increased government surveillance to Internet commercial snooping to the sharing of personal medical records without your consent.

20. Every vote for Ralph Nader is a vote towards the creation of a watchdog political party that will empower civic groups and send a clear message to the two major parties: “shape up or shrink down.” If you agree that Ralph Nader is the only presidential candidate capable of reforming politics, vote Nader. Do you expect your members of Congress to vote their conscience? Shouldn’t you?

Published on Monday, November 6, 2000 Reject Politics of Fear, Vote Nader by Chad Hanson

As a member of the Sierra Club's national Board of Directors, I have received tremendous pressure to hold my tongue and refrain from speaking my mind on Al Gore's environmental record. I was one of the few Club board members who voted against a Gore endorsement, in favor of endorsing Ralph Nader for President. I accept that a majority of those in my own organization disagree with me on this issue. However, after witnessing Al Gore, certain syndicated columnists, and the Sierra Club turn on Ralph Nader in the closing days of this election, I feeled compelled to offer my views.

A vote for Ralph Nader is a vote for George W. Bush, the saying goes. Gore himself echoed this sentiment recently at a campaign stop in Wisconsin. I was deeply offended. While making this statement, Gore essentially acknowledged that he is the lesser environmental candidate, compared to Nader. But rather than improve his environmental stance to address the concerns of those who would vote for Nader, he instead uses this scare tactic to coerce environmentalists to support him despite their better judgement. According to Gore, it is us who have to change, not him: vote for me, or else. I simply don't accept this brand of electioneering.

Besides, I believe it is far from clear whether Gore would in fact be better for the environment than Bush. There's no question about the fact that Bush is a regressive neanderthal when it comes to the environment. He'd love to increase logging on national forests, and open up sensitive wildlands to oil drilling. But would he be effective in achieving these anti-environmental objectives? I doubt it. The environmental community would pull out all the stops, justifiably branding Bush as environmental villain number one. The press would scrutinize his every move; and moderates in his own party would resist his attempts to undermine environmental laws, lest he tarnish their reputations by association. There would be an epic backlash, and Bush would be hamstrung.

Gore, on the other hand, is a totally different story. The national environmental groups are notorious for looking the other way when a Democrat President they helped get elected sells out the environment. The relationship, in my view, has become too cozy. The writing, in fact, is already on the wall. In two separate campaign stops, Gore proclaimed that he supports continuing the commercial logging program on this nation's national forests--a view out of step with three out of four Americans (Nader would end timber sales on national forests). There wasn't a peep from prominent environmental groups. Nor was there any cry from the large national groups when the Clinton/Gore Administration, just weeks ago, made a deal with Congressional Republicans to enact the largest funding increase for timber sales on federal lands in recent memory. Gore's failure to support the removal of outdated Northwest dams that are harming imperiled salmon runs was met with criticism so tepid it barely registered in the media.

The problem is, when it comes to comparing Gore and Bush on the environment, Bush is twice as bad but half as effective, while Gore is half as bad but twice as effective. On the ground where it counts, the difference between the two, in terms of the damage they are capable of, is likely to be negligible.

So, what's a self-respecting environmentally-minded voter to do? Simple, vote for Nader. Reject the "lesser of two evils" approach and the politics of fear. Vote for your candidate because their positions inspire you and give you hope, not because they have made you afraid of their opponent. Ultimately, things won't begin to get better for the environment until people stop voting for candidates they don't really want.

Chad Hanson is a national director of the Sierra Club.

When the public sided with Bill Clinton over Tom DeLay during the impeachment farce, right-wing super-moralists went ballistic. NADER DEFENDS STOCK-MARKET LOOT: 'It's important for people to have a conflict against their financial interest,' he explains

-- more --

Salon.com, Pacifica Radio and many concerned lefties have criticized Nader's six-figure participation in the Fidelity Magellan Fund, which owns substantial chunks of such targets of Ralph's wrath as Occidental Petroleum, General Dynamics, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Wal-Mart.

"[Fidelity] holds shares in so many companies Nader has crusaded against, it's hard to escape the conclusion that Nader's participation in the fund is supremely hypocritical," Salon campaign correspondent Jake Tapper wrote Oct. 28.

Bush2k,

You fell no need? You promised over a month ago? i assume with that post you're admitting defeat.

As for the question of abortion, there you go again posting a lie about my position. i am consistantly pro-life and you know it.

It's not a choice between the unborn and the person on death row the church teaches that the commitment to life must be met without regard to the moral worth of the person. You, unfortunately, don't understand that or don't want to understand that.

You are also acting as if these are the only two issues when there are many more.

The difference between us is not that you support one part of the teaching and i support another; it's that i support the fulness of the teaching and you pick and choose as if faith were some Wisconsin buffet.

i rarely feel morally superior to anyone; in fact, i think it's a sin, but it's very hard not to around you.

I wonder what the right wing talk show hosts will talk about for the next 4 years as they are agonizing over Gore's victory tomorrow night? That is an interestinmg question. Im sure we can see the future. However maybe we'll see more Mike's on the air in the next few years, though highly unlikely i have faith. Im not nearly as nervous about the election now as I have been over the past few months. MSNBC has Gore up 2+- for each man.

My prediction of the popular vote tomorrow night, Gore 49 Bush 47

Gore E wins- CA, IL, WI, MI MN, WA, FL, NY, PA, eastern seaboard, possbily IA, even MO, which i didnt think would be close is a lot closer than i though and in the last few is leaning Gore. St. Louis may have put Gore over as Gore rallied there yesterday.

TN is close but i think Bush, AR, much closer than i thought again but Bush should take that unless Clinton had a profound effect.

::::::Weather Bulliten::::::

A cold front is ripping through guarenteed Bush states such as ND, SD, NE, KA, and OK. Voter turnout may be low in these areas. Blizzard conditions in Montana and ND several inches snow with fierce winds. heavy rain in N. WI tonight should taper tomorrow by midday

Chicago looks dry low 60's, St Louis dry upper 50's, Most of WI looks dry after midday. Light rain in Minneapolis, Light snow in Denver (hunting state) NM possible rain in the mid 40's, MI possible light rain 50's. Florida is florida

Social security recipients no better, which is why Gore will win FL, as well as the Lieberman factor there and in NY.

Watch for Na/Bush defectants. Nader will get 3% Buchanan 1% Gore 49% Bush 47%

Our country will be OURS again by tomorrow around this time. CDT That is affirmative!!!

The difference between us is not that you support one part of the teaching and i support another; it's that i support the fulness of the teaching

Well that is interesting john. If that was the case, wouldn't you support a pro life position?

Are you than saying that you are against abortion except in those cases of Rape, insest and the life of the mother?

Im going to bed, have to do some more work tommarow... before VICTORY2000 baby...

Busch2000-Bush is winning in states where there are no people anyway. A few less people voting because of a billzard may make a difference for him, especially if some of the people that do go to vote for him actually stop and think, (highly unlikely), but hey isnt Bush counting on people like that??? Ya know, people who cant think.

Can somebody answer this question... Why are all the 3rd and 5th graders in this country behind Bush? Is it because he represents their intelligence level, and therefore they can relate to each other???

Re the quote that a conservative govt. is organized hypocrisy. . . what could be more hypocritical than a bunch of Libs.!! They love to throw money at problems. . . as long as it's someone elses money!!

As for Dee in Winnipeg. . . do you deny that Canadians pour into the U.S. seeking medical treatment? Seems there is quite a waiting list to have any type of elective surgery up there from everyone I've talked to from there. Same way in mother England with their socialized medical care. You are correct that drugs are cheaper there and a lot of that has to do with our FDA taking years to get off their bureaucratic butts to get things done.

That was a standard conservative cute phrase.

I do not envy the rich.

I do not want their money. I do not need their money. I do not owe the rich anything. I am not here to be their servant.

They have wealth enough to promote economic policies even more to their favor by giving some of their wealth to the right person. I expect they see it as an investment that will bring a nice return.

I still hold to the idea, that we all as free persons, elect our representative to work for economic policies that will benifit us all.

I do not envy the rich.

But I will give those who are to represent us to this one promise.

If you are not working for OUR INTERESTS, then you can be assured, the attention you get from me....will not be nice.

That goes for Gore after he wins.

And if this country has gotten so pathetic and elects the major league babbling asshole...... my attention will not fade away......but will just grow into a very crude Irish Rage.

Have a nice day.................Tom

Spent the weekend up in Madison, WI saoking in a dose of sanity before returning to fight through the "bushes" of Kane County and cast my vote for the Vice President. It wasn't fun, it wasn't my "conscious" but it was my responsibility. My responsibility to all those I care about. My responsibility to keep this country from veering even further off to the right than it already has.

With Gore in the White House we can then begin more important work.

AT THE POLLS IN OK--what does this mean?

At my precinct at 7:20--ca. 15-20 waiting in line [in north-east Tulsa]

At a precinct in south-west Tulsa--long line outside poll at 7:40

From woman going into work--ca. 100 in line at her precinct before 7:00

From another woman going into work--heard on radio: on basis of reports from around OK, OK election official is predicting possible 80% voter turn-out in OK

Response from receptionist--"Praise the Lord"

From 2 people at work--forecast is for rain and possible sleet late afternoon or evening

Young Black male in work environment heavily evangelical/conservative Christian--agreed, no doubt in his mind, with my quiet comment that Blacks and women are crazy if they vote Rep

White adult male at Sat Dem get out vote rally--he has been letting all his fellow vets know about AWOL Bush

Very controversial downtown development plan with sales-tax on ballot for Tulsa

What does this all mean? Perhaps BA_BureauChief has some suggestions.

From the scene [planning to vote mid-afternoon],

No matter how the vote goes, your attention can not just fade away.

You have seen just how bad the media coverage has been.

Is it reasonable that almost all of the coverage of Bush has failed to convey to America...this man's past?

Is it reasonable to think that the republicans have been able to put TWO people on the TOP of their ticket....both convicted...both with arrest records.... and it only comes out...just a few short days before election day?

Today is election day.....but what are you going to do after that?

Are you going to be reasonable and just fade away?

Keep this in mind when you wake up Nov.8.

The Republican Party has TWO CONVICTS at the TOP of thier party.

How long have you been aware of that?

THE MEDIA IS AS LIBERAL AS THE CORPORATIONS THAT OWN THEM.

VOTE TODAY!!!

In April of 1775, British troops left Boston under the cover of darkness to attack Lexington and Concord. Warned by Paul Revere and John Dawes, local militias repelled the British troops. What happened next was even less expected. Word of the attack spread for hundreds of miles over small trails and footpaths. Over the next week, Americans from as far away as Maine and the Berkshires converged on Boston. As many as 250,000, a significant part of the population, spontaneously traveled to Boston to confront he British, who eventually withdrew.

The issues remain much the same: taxes, over-bearing government, and local control. Today, you can make yourself heard through voting. No long treks or hostile fire. You can choose high taxes with Al Gore or lower taxes with Governor Bush. You can choose one-size-fits-all government from Al Gore or you can make your own decisions with Governor Bush. You can have decisions made by Washington bureaucrats led by Al Gore or you can have more decisions made by local officials that know you and your community led by Governor Bush.

To ensure Governor Bush wins Michigan and the nation, it is vital that you vote, that your friends and family vote, and like Revere and Dawes you spread the word today about the election and what is at stake. There is no tomorrow in this race. There are no second chances. VOTE!!!

ELECTION DAY 2000

Truthseekers:

I have been writing letters to the editor of the Copley News and Ottawa Daily Times in the Northern Illinois area. What I am dismayed about is that I just got off the phone with Lonny Cain at the Ottawa Daily Times to ask why they have not published my letters. Response....The managing editor decided not to print letters with endorsements. I told him my letter was factual statements regarding Mr. Bush's military record and another regarding Bush's Texas record. The people
